Hoya Sarawak full plant

Hoya sarawak (reclassified as a variety of Hoya latifolia) is a popular tropical climber native to the rainforests of Borneo, specifically the Sarawak region of Malaysia. It is widely celebrated for its dramatic, oversized foliage and fragrant star-shaped blooms. 

Key Features

• Foliage: Features large, thick, leathery leaves that can reach 6–8 inches long. The leaves are deep green with prominent, lighter-colored veins that create a rugged, textured appearance.
• Flowers: Produces massive clusters (umbels) of up to 50 waxy flowers. Blooms are typically creamy white or pale pink with a deep pink to reddish center (corona) and emit a sweet, spicy fragrance that is strongest at night.
• Growth Habit: A vigorous climber that thrives when trained on a trellis, moss pole, or hoop. It can also be grown in hanging planters where its heavy vines spill over the edges. 

Core Care Requirements

• Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate lower light, bright filtered sunlight is necessary for flowering. Avoid direct afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch.
• Watering: Allow the top inch or more of soil to dry out between waterings; it is sensitive to overwatering. Thick, succulent leaves make it relatively drought-tolerant.
• Substrate: Requires a chunky, well-draining mix (e.g., orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir) to prevent root rot.
• Environment: Thrives in warm temperatures (18–28°C / 65–82°F) and high humidity (60–80%), though it can adapt to average household humidity
