Care tips

  • Light: They need abundant bright, indirect light, ideally with a few hours of direct morning sun. Southern or west-facing windows are often ideal indoor spots. Insufficient light can cause the plant to become leggy.
  • Watering: Use the "soak and dry" method. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common issue and can lead to root rot.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix, often amended with perlite, pumice, or coarse sand to ensure proper drainage.
  • Temperature and Humidity: They thrive in warm temperatures (18-27°C or 65-80°F) and prefer low humidity. They are not frost-tolerant and should be brought indoors if temperatures drop below 10°C (50°F).
  • Fertilizing: Feed monthly during the spring and summer growing season using a balanced, water-soluble succulent fertilizer diluted to half strength. No fertilizer is needed during the fall and winter dormancy period.
  • Pruning/Propagation: Pruning is minimal, mainly to maintain shape or remove damaged stems. Both varieties are easy to propagate from stem cuttings; simply allow the cutting to callus for a few days before planting in dry, well-draining soil.

Care tips

  • Light: Bright, direct to indirect light. Most succulents need at least 4–6 hours of bright light daily. Rotate pot regularly for even growth.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly but infrequently — only when soil is completely dry. Typically every 1–2 weeks in summer, less in winter. Never let them sit in water.
  • Soil & Potting: Use a fast-draining cactus/succulent mix. Add extra perlite, coarse sand, or pumice for improved drainage.
  • Temperature & Humidity: Keep between 15–27°C (60–80°F). Most succulents prefer low humidity. Good air circulation prevents rot.
  • Extra Tips: Succulents store water in their leaves — wrinkled leaves mean they're thirsty, mushy leaves mean overwatering. Feed sparingly in spring/summer.
