Care Guide

  • Light: Requires bright, indirect light. It can "sun stress" (turning shades of purple or red) when exposed to high light, which is generally reversible and considered a sign of a healthy plant.
  • Watering: Allow the potting mix to dry out almost completely (about 75-100%) between waterings. It is sensitive to overwatering and susceptible to root rot.
  • Substrate: Thrives in a chunky, well-draining, soil-less mix composed of materials like orchid bark, perlite, and pumice to ensure high aeration.
  • Temperature & Humidity: Prefers warm temperatures between 60–85°F (15–29°C) and moderate to high humidity (above 50-60%).
  • Maintenance: Feed lightly with a balanced, diluted fertilizer during the growing season (spring/summer). Do not remove peduncles (flower stalks) after blooming, as it will rebloom from the same spot.

Care tips

  • Light: Bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some morning direct sun. Avoid harsh afternoon sun which can burn leaves.
  • Watering: Allow the top 50% of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in winter. Hoyas prefer to be slightly underwatered than overwatered.
  • Soil & Potting: Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix — orchid bark, perlite, and peat moss work well. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
  • Temperature & Humidity: Keep between 15–27°C (60–80°F). Hoyas enjoy moderate to high humidity (50–70%). Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C.
  • Extra Tips: Hoyas are epiphytic and love to climb or trail. Do not remove old flower peduncles — they will bloom again from the same spot.
